Getting a book published has meant making the transition from the quiet suburban life of a mother to fronting up to hundreds of people at writers festivals and other public speaking engagements. Although this has often been daunting, writing can be a lonely and insular existence, so I have really enjoyed getting out and talking to people. I am pretty down-to-earth (you could say that domestic duties keep a person well 'grounded') and I think people have appreciated seeing an unaffected everyday mother in the role of published author.
The topics that I have typically dealt with in my public speaking include:
The road to becoming a writer and getting published
How to balance motherhood and work as a writer
Issues of motherhood and identity
